In the grove was an epic short story because it made me feel like I am Detective Conan, you know the anime which revolves around a grown up detective became a child.Detective Conan is my favorite anime and it really makes you want to find out who really the killer is. Detective Conan always has this "aha" moment when he find the killer and find the evidence that is so well hidden , he still finds it out. The story makes me feel like I am a detective and makes me relive my times when I watch detective conan and also I always wanted to play as a detective and see how my observation skills. But unfortunately I was not even able to get what really the motive of Masago is and I didnt even notice why there were two names mentioned in the story by the mother of Masago and Masago herself. I also didnt know that the Samurai was poor which made me think that my observation skills is not even that good because there are so many parts that I missed. This makes me scared about the Final Exam about the novel "A Chronicle of a Death Foretold". My professor saud that there is a something about the accounts of the character that is a lie but when I read it I didnt notice anything. Getting back from the short story, I think that this was the story which really alienates itself apart from other short stories which is really good because it gives a different point of view characters which is just usually one. The way the structure of the short story is presented is also what makes it differ and more engaging to read. You feel like there is a sense of purpose of reading it and you have the objective to find out who really murdered the the samurai. Though some readers say that the point of the story is not to find out who the murderer is and the purpose of the story is just to portray how people lie and you can never really believe anyone to what they say. It also made me remind the movie "Vantage Point" because of all the different perspective the movie with regards to the characters. The whole movie was not even linear and the whole movie was just based from ones perspective and switches back to the other which is also true in the story of "In the Grove".

The Storm Blog

I think the story “The Storm” had a nice way of letting the readers think to what is really good and what is bad. Though most of the class thought that what Calixta did was bad, I think they are influenced by the religion that they have which is Catholic. They keep saying that “you should be faithful to the partner” which again shows how greatly religion has affected them and not only them but me too and that is situated in society today. Good and bad is defined by religion and I think that is why people think that even if I they did something wrong and others did not find it out, it is considered bad. For me arguing that what Calixta did was wrong is hard. Our professor makes a very good point that as long as no one knows and everyone is happy, it is good. Which makes me already think twice on what is really good, it does make sense and it is so easy to grasp. But what makes me think is that I will always feel guilty if I were in Calixta or Alcee. That’s the flaw that what I thought of with the story. Even if it is good, there is always this guilt that you can never get rid of. No matter what religion you have or none at all, you still have that guilt build up inside you unless you are a psychopath or a sociopath. Despite that what you did is good and no one else was hurt, there is this guilt in real life and it was not mentioned in the story. Though I am wondering if guilt considered a bad thing if you felt it. Would guilt make a good thing bad if it was felt by the doer? For me yes if guilt was already in place is already considered a bad thing. The story was unique in paralleling the storm to their sex scene. At first I didn’t think that they were having sex and was only kissing. The second walkthrough made me think that what is the lighting have to do with the kissing scene and then there was a “aha ” moment that they are already having sex and orgasm. Though I am wondering is this girl Calixta like a whore or just not being sexually satisfied or just likes being turned on by this fantasy she has. She actually reminded me about a TV series “Walking Dead” about the character “Lori”.

Araby Blog

Araby has quite a number of similarities when I was a child. I am pretty sure that most were like the narrator who keeps thinking about their crush because its their first. I am so much like the narrator when I was still a young boy but never in a sense of stalking the girl. The only similarities that I had was when I did not have the courage to talk even near her. Though I think that this kind of situation no longer exist because there are actually kids who already has a girlfriend or boyfriend. Most are no longer the shy ones who stalks their crush. But the poem itself has another theme which relates to faith and how the similarities of first crush and faith are quite similar when it comes to the stages of who they are formed. At first , I though that the poem was just a simple story about a boy who had a crush. It is quite simple but its effect on each person was very relocatable. Despite the story's simplistic plot, it affected everyone and I never actually have ever thought about how similar this story is to my first and how it is not only I who does this when I had my first crush. Someone also did and realize how people react with their first crush. I actually liked the story because I actually felt bad about the narrator and how pitiful the attempts of the narrator was. I myself would have done the same think and do everything I could just to make my crush happy. If was the boy and continued on the story, I would have still made an effort to buy her something despite the fact that she is using me. I would have never known that she was using me and maybe even if she was using me she might still feel bad and maybe my attempts of making her feel special would somehow change her feelings for me I would have still attempt do everything and maybe my charms would make her feel the same way as I feel about her. But for me I still cant say for sure that this girl is really a bad person maybe she just flirts that way. There are other girls who is much more worst than that and judging from the very short story , I cant really say for sure that this girl is really a bitch despite the obvious gesture she makes when she was turning the bracelet.

Overall the play of every group was marvelously done. Everyone clearly had the play prepared and their voice acting was exceptional. Although I think that my acting was terrible. I am never meant to act out characters from any play or acting scene. I thought about how my acting performance was and I would give it 1.5. I could not express out the character in a play as they should be. I am quite glad that my part wasn’t even that part of the whole play because I would have drag my group mates down when it comes to the group grade. I am quite angry and disappointed about my performance that time. I only had a very few lines and yet wasn’t able to perform as well as others. I would have done better and I hope that this is a lesson for me that I can never ever act in a play ever again in my life. I personally like the play of group 5 aside from my own group’s play because of the funny acting that the group portrayed. The play itself is not funny but how the group 5 played their part as the character. The character Tuxqs had a funny accent of portraying as a gay dude because there is something that made the voice funny and the character of Mario by group 5 had a funny play because of how he personally did not know his own character. Tuxqs character had nice way to improvised when the character does not know their part yet.They did not keep the play at stand still when others did not know their part or forgot that it was their part. The improvises made by the character Tuxqs kept the play moving. This kind of play had a very nice setting and did not need much props or big podiums to make the play successful. A nice classroom could be enough for the play to keep rolling. The whole play was a bit too long for it too be memorize and I was actually surprise most were able to memorize and had the confidence to act out their part. They just had confidence and determination to be able to play the characters right. All most everyone had memorize their parts well and it was very entertaining to see how well everyone was prepared through out the play. Others even made a video just to keep the audience in with the story of the play

Ang Paglilitis ni Mang Serapio

Ang paglilitis ni Mang Serapio was a very beautiful poem because for me it had simple words which I had understood clearly unlike previous poems and dramas. Though I did not see the allusion of the story to Oedipus the king, I was still able to admire its story and its meaning. I believed that this kind of injustice is exaggerated because this kind of trial is no longer evident in today’s society. I didn’t quite get though why the 2nd na tagapagtanong was always repeating, I first thought that it was to add a more intense setting and emotion because I thought that this character , the 2nd na tagapagtanong was like finishing each other’s sentence and making the emotion more intense by repeating the dialogues. I do not believe though that the senseless characters or stories are bad for dramas and stories because they add to the emotion of the story. Example is this poem. I had imagined that the 2nd tagapagtanong was actually crucial because it adds emotion and anger of the court to Mag Serapio. If he wasn’t there I would have thought that the court was just another simple case where attorneys are asking some questions which didn’t really add any emotion to the drama. Imagine just one guy only asking Mang Serapio , would you have none for a fact that the court was angry at Mang Serapio for a crime? For me I don’t think that would have been the case. And also I think that mang Serapio indeed had a hamartia because he won’t let go of the fact that his daughter is dead. Look at people around you who had experienced a lost loved one. Do you see them substituting them for a thing or a doll? No right, all of them have moved on at some point in time and have normally mourned for their lost. Mang Serapio for me did have a hamartia and it was his weakness of not letting go. And not letting go is actually a moral misconduct because it seperates you from the real world and to the world that you want it to be. Though I am not saying that Mang Serapio is insane, he had a weakness and his weakness was his attitude of not being able to let go of the things that can’t be returned to normal that for me is a weakness that I thought that made Mang Serapio weak.

My draft of making a poem

Writing the poem starting from scratch is the hardest thing to do. Usually in my childhood days when we were to write a poem , i just come up with words that rhymes. Though they have some themes, it usually ends up none sense , and just for the sake of rhyming. The step by step process of making a poem thought by us in humalit , was far much easier because there are things that were considered like the listing down of a process that suits your liking. Though it was still hard at first , you can easily get the idea of making a poem and the rhyming of a poem is not the whole purpose of the process. One just have to come up a very parallel set of words that is associated with the theme of the poem. My poem as told by my professor was a crap , i knew it was a totAl crap and i don't blame him. It is very hard to come up with a very deep meaning and make it simple that readers would still get the ideA of what you are saying. The thought of making a poem about making a pc is hard and was a big mistake , i could not think of a parallelism to make with a pc , though i did at the end, it was time consuming and was a drag . The process of making a pc is just putting it all together and quite repetitive . Vocabulary is also a must because if you don't have a good one , you can barely come up with words that can suite the parallelism that you are making . The exercise also gave me a very sad fact that i cant write a poem in spite of the methods and step by step process of creating a good poem but that wont hinder me in making poems because i know for a fact that it takes time and practice for a poem to be good. There are still some improvements like my vocabulary and my way of interpreting a process into a very good poem . I hope that someday and somehow i can be as good of as a poet and also be able to interpret other poems into what they really meant and hopefully someday i can also be good as the great poets that are very famous that can interpret and make poems

Oedipus the king is a drama which for me is so too coincidental to happen that it could for me is too farfetched to happen in real life. There were so many unrealistic happening which made the drama for me very weird but surprisingly interesting for me. Even at its most outrageous setting and plot, the reader is still very interesting because as the fact that it is very odd and weird thing to happen makes it much more interesting to read at. When have you seen such plot like the Oedipus the king drama, where the story was based upon on a prophecy which they tried to avoid but because they tried to avoid it and react to that prophecy the prophecy actually happened. Which made me think of what might have happened if the parents of Oedipus did not give him to the herdsman for him to hang on a tree with Oedipus’s feet tied up. Would the prophecy still come true ? And the story is full of irony like where Oedipus was cursing the murder or where he was trying to search for the murderer. If the herdsman have just told that Oedipus that Polybus wasn’t his real father the tragedy might not even happen. Although the point of this drama is to show a tragedy. And the fact that if Oedipus had just listened to Jacosta, he wouldn’t have to be exiled and know the truth. It was better of for theme in their situation to live in a lie that lives in the bitter truth. For the drama I liked how the drama is full of flashbacks and full of realizations. This made the story like a roller coaster ride where there are always many ups and many downs. Though I didn’t like the fact that they keep asking the oracle which made the whole life of theirs based upon on predictions and by avoiding it only makes it truer. Imagining a life like that makes me sick and everyone keeps asking what the oracle thinks and so on. They are too dependent on the oracle and have too much faith on their gods. Many of us are somehow similar to this kind of life where everyone depends on others saying and never actually think for themselves. Though asking help and advice is not bad, too much dependency on these things can alter our lives to which we expect them to be but never really actually happened. Like for example, sayings like if we work hard and do good deeds will make our lives better can actually have a bad effect as this can make our hopes up really high but if they never really make our lives good can make our hopes really down. As an effect this can change the perspective of life from good to bad.

Sailing to Byzantium Blog

I had an impression of the poem Sailing to Byzantium quite a misinterpretation. The first interpretation I had was that the poet didn’t want to be forgotten but actually he wanted to live forever and be like the artificial things because these things are never dead. Which made me think that why does this poet want to live forever and be like the artificial ones and not the natural ones. I myself don’t want to live forever unless of course everyone other than me lives forever too. The meaning of the poet was though not unique made readers learn more through the use of allusion. This is helpful in educating readers not just on the poem but to other knowledge’s out there. I think that this kind of technique is great in trying to educate young minds more efficiently because not only are they interpreting the poem but also adding more knowledge because the poem requires a brief knowledge of the poems words like in the case here the city of Byzantium. I myself didn’t even know that Istanbul is a great historic place. Though my interpretation s of the poem seemed very farfetched to the real interpretations, I was able to gain knowledge about Byzantium. The allusion technique is useful for trying to force readers to learn about specific things and history before diving into the real meaning of the poem. I didn’t quite get so well what the poem Is trying to say so I didn’t quite like the poem. Unlike previous poem you would know just a glimpse of what the poem’s meaning, but here its pure blank as if I have to decipher the poem just to get the whole meaning of the poem. Regarding the poems purpose to say that he wants to live forever, the poet never actually said why he wanted to live forever. And the living part meant that he wanted to live forever as a soul and yet he wanted to be an artificial bird. These two are contradicting each other because one is material and the other is immaterial which again made me wonder what kind he wants to live forever. Does he want to live as a soul forever or to be human forever because he was stating that he wanted to be artificial? The poem is so vague to me that it was hard for a simple reader to understand its meaning and it need a professional to just be able to understand the real interpretation.

Blog of Walking Around

The walking around poem was the one of the weirdest poem i had ever seen .The first time i read it i took it literally. I didn’t understand the poem at all. I could have never figured out what was going on until my professor discussed it in class. There were so many things that you have to really associate the things in the poem to the life. For me, i think it requires determination and perseverance to fully understand the surrealist mind of the poet. Though the poem was deep it had sense in real life which never really is realized by most people. The life we lived in is built by man and it’s no surprise that mains also the one who is sacrificing for it. The truth in the poem should actually be realized by most people because i think that people just does not know how make their eyes open to the world that they live in .I myself have felt that paying taxes is the most idiotic thing that the government has done, sure they pay for their salary and the facilities but it seems that a government rune by business minded people are such a waste. The people in the government are full of crap. And I agree in the poem that all the things we wear are all but nothing but a disguised and formalities are just a way to see your good side not your true self. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a freedom of their own. I see people who do the simplest things in life like janitor, guard and wonder how are they able to endure and why are they the most looked down part in society. I feel that they should be appreciated by all and respect their doings. When have you seen that a person's objective is to be a janitor or a guard or servant? No one, and that shouldn’t be the case because their service are quite crucial in society .Though other countries give them high salary, it is here in the Philippines that i feel like no one appreciates these people. The poem in my opinion is an eye opener for people to change how everyone lives, even back then where kingdoms and dynasties rule over the public and has to make these authority powerful when in fact the public should be the one who is on top, i hope that someday a person is able to find a system in society where there is enough equality for everyone and freedom is still at the hands of the beholder.

Humalit blog about python in malle

Python in the mall was such a very weird poem because of how it was related to the urban legend of the Robinsons Snake. There were even videos in internet that somehow proved that it existed but despite the legend that it was related to, it was not the poems intention to really relate to the urban legend but it was the fact that it was symbolizing the malls themselves on how they act like a snake described in the urban legend. It was nice how it has come to that and I didn’t see the relationship of the urban legend to the malls. I was sure that the poem was for the urban legend only and has no relation to the anything else but as discussed in the class that there is a relation which I find interestingly enough. It was amazing how an urban legend was related to how the mall has an effect on people. Not in a physical aspect but in a psychological aspect. The unusual relation of the urban legend and the mall was very surprising at best because of usually; poems never relate it to urban legends. The urban legend was the catchy thing in the poem because a lot of people really believed that the snake existed. There was even the actress that believed it happened; which makes me wonder now if the urban legend was the inspiration to making the poem or was the poets real intention was to open the eyes of the people who go to malls. For the urban legend, I was really finding it weird because of so many versions of the legend that the snake was having a button that moved the floors, which makes a bit of a weird legend and the weird videos that are in the YouTube that shows the snake. That for me was totally weird and makes me feel bad on urban legends which are usually intriguing and interesting but this urban legend was something very unusual that you don’t have a second thought that whether the legend is true or not .The El chupacabra and the loch ness monster, big foot were much more believable than the story behind the legend of the snake that had a button that make floors move or the fact that this snake lays golden eggs which are so untrue and that it could be made into a comic than an urban legend.

The poem reminded me about the events that took place when I was still a child when things past by so fast. A moment you are a child who is carefree but now you are a grown man who has everything to worry about. Leaving the childhood is somehow similar to what the poem is trying to express or argue. The poem was expressing its arguments that leaving is something that is not to be sad about or mourned. Leaving is only a small part of life and does not mean it is the end. To me I associated my childhood memories to now. Thinking about the life I had when I was a child and leaving it was such a sad experience. Though the poem was targeting it to a lover, in my case I was targeting it to my life when I was a child. Being a child meant that you are always dependent and everything just seems to be a perfect world. Leaving in that state meant that the entire perfect world is gone. Though leaving that state was a sad moment, it does not mean that it was the end. In fact leaving it made myself very strong and much more independent. So there is nothing to be sad about growing up even though times are tough these days. These memories of child hood will comeback someday and just by simply remembering those days will surely make everything better. Leaving childhood will not make me only a better man but will make me also become a better person to others. One example is just by having fun with children. This kind of experience could help myself relive the past childhood experience. Also my childhood experience could make stronger bonds with others and help myself be part of children’s lives. I may have left my childhood but I can be part of others childhood to help them grow better person. So in short, leaving a childhood have made me realize that one cannot be sad about it because leaving it would only make us a better person. Though the child physically is not me anymore, I can still relive it through past memories and engaging in activities with children. Though the poem was so deep it was able to give some past memories that made me realize how goodbyes are never the end. All of which are only temporary and can still be remembered.

My First Blog For Humalit EH

You know what I like Ars Poetica? It is the fact that it presents itself and use words that are simple and easy to understand yet with all of its simplest words, it was still able to give a very deep and complex meaning. For me, when I first read it all of its text was very basic and I didn't even need to use a dictionary; but the meaning itself is shown despite its simple use of terms. The author was keeping it simple. When you think about it poems usually pertain to themes or things about the world. Most poems are always focus on others and not focus on how a poem should be like and for me I thought it was quite unique but as said in the class , one cannot say its unique unless there was no one able to have that same context. What made me said that it was unique was because of all my childhood a poem never particularly talks about the poem itself; in a sense where it is saying what a poem should be like. It usually pertains to the things or themes in life but never really about poems and also that is why I think that this poem should be read by literature majors because it was good in both delivering a good poem and at the same time delivering what a poem should be like. Some students like me always keep on making poems force to rhyme and never really thinking about the context of it. There is nothing that in this poem that I would dislike because it is in fact a very good poem. How do I say this? well for the fact that its context was not too deep and not to simple to understand. Parts of the poem are just enough to be understood by anyone. Unlike other poems where it is so deep that you need to have a doctorate to degree to decipher its meaning. I personally don’t really get poems on what they are targeting or what is they’re objective because at an early age teachers are just forcing students to just read it and never really tell what a purpose of a poem. The Ars Poetica may just describe what a poem should be but just by simply knowing the characteristic of a poem, you would already know what it is trying to tell or what its objective is. A sample in the poem line is “Dumb As old medallions to the thumb”. That line right there describes a poem that it should make people remember memories of the past so basically just by knowing that fact you already know that a poems objective is to try make you feel and reflect on the past. Even if a poem is just not arguing it is trying to make you feel something when you read it and for me that is the objective of a poem. To make you feel something and to relate.
